December 1 - December 31
Jesse was an elderly Polish Arabian who was living only a mile or so from the rescue. His owner died, and the owner's son told his mother that he would take care of Jesse. However, all he did was throw a bale of hay over the fence every week or so. Since Jesse hardly had any teeth left, he couldn't chew regular hay, and so couldn't even eat the little that he was given.
Understandably, Jesse escaped his paddock several times and roamed the neighborhood looking for food. When he arrived at SJHR, he was severely emaciated and hadn’t had any dental, vet checks, or farrier work done in years, and he was sorely in need of a safe place to land. Jesse had ringbone and Cushing's Disease, but was the sweetest boy with a great temperament.
On November 29, Jesse was in significant pain from his conditions and was granted the final gift of love by releasing him from that pain. Jesse's last request to Santa is to pass on the love by helping his friends still at the rescue with their medication and supplement costs.
Any gift would be so appreciated.
Thank you to Barbara G., France A., Bonnie L., Donna S., Al H., Irene J., the Princess Madeleine, Suzanne B., Amanda J., and Dianne E. for helping grant Jesse's last wish!
Special Horses, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization. It is a GuideStar Platinum Participant and has been a Great Nonprofit since 2015. Since 2009, our mission has been to provide outstanding 501(c)(3) equine rescue organizations with fundraising opportunities, marketing assistance, educational opportunities, grant assistance and community outreach. The organizations we support are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming horses in need, and are carefully screened and selected based on their trustworthy reputation, dedication, and excellent service to the animals in their care. Rescuing horses leaves these organizations little time to plan, organize, and execute fundraisers and outreach, and it is the mission of Special Horses to help them help equines in need.
