Olaf is an approximately 12 year old gelding. He was found wandering estray (yes, like a stray dog!) in October. The sheriff's department picked him up and tried to find his owner for several weeks, but no one seemed to know where he belonged. That's when they asked Bluebonnet to take him in.
When he arrived, he was very thin and had a large growth on his right eyelid. His veterinarian believed it was a squamous cell carcinoma, and she discovered another growth on his eyeball, also likely a squamous cell carcinoma. In addition, he had a few growths on his muzzle, also all likely to be squamous cell carcinomas. He's undergoing treatment and will likely lose his eyeball.
Despite the rough condition of his body, Olaf seems to be a sweet guy. He's a little reserved but once he gets to know you, he seems to prefer the company of people to that of horses. We think he may be a Tennessee Walker or a cross, and we cannot wait to see what he knows once he's recovered and is healthy.

His wish list:
A $500 donation to the veterinary fund and all the other items he needs would be $735. Can Santa come through?
$579 more grants his wish! Thank you to France A., Bonnie L., Pat D., Irene J., Dianne E., Gayle P., Josh G., Diane M., and Jill L. for helping to grant Olaf's wish!
Special Horses, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization. It is a GuideStar Platinum Participant and has been a Great Nonprofit since 2015. Since 2009, our mission has been to provide outstanding 501(c)(3) equine rescue organizations with fundraising opportunities, marketing assistance, educational opportunities, grant assistance and community outreach. The organizations we support are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming horses in need, and are carefully screened and selected based on their trustworthy reputation, dedication, and excellent service to the animals in their care. Rescuing horses leaves these organizations little time to plan, organize, and execute fundraisers and outreach, and it is the mission of Special Horses to help them help equines in need.
