Hattie is a very senior mare who was struggling with a respiratory infection when dumped at a killpen in 2021 during a horrific Texas winter storm. Hattie doesn’t have very much of her bottom teeth left. As a result, she can’t chew hay and she relies on extruded pellet feeds made specifically for equine seniors.
She’s in good company, because the majority of TIER residents are seniors and need specialty feed, like Purina Equine Senior and Mountain Sunrise Alfalfa Pellets. These feeds tend to be quite a bit more expensive – it runs $1,000 per month to feed them all. Hattie is very grateful for the sanctuary she’s found at TIER, and so she’s asking Santa for funds to her and her senior friends through the holiday season.
You can help Santa out by making a donation through Secret Santa, or you can PayPal to TIER directly at whoanellie@earthlink.net.
Even $500 would make the holidays bright!

Special Horses, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization. It is a GuideStar Platinum Participant and has been a Great Nonprofit since 2015. Since 2009, our mission has been to provide outstanding 501(c)(3) equine rescue organizations with fundraising opportunities, marketing assistance, educational opportunities, grant assistance and community outreach. The organizations we support are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming horses in need, and are carefully screened and selected based on their trustworthy reputation, dedication, and excellent service to the animals in their care. Rescuing horses leaves these organizations little time to plan, organize, and execute fundraisers and outreach, and it is the mission of Special Horses to help them help equines in need.
