Chili is an approximately 8 year old Arabian gelding who was part of a neglect case. He was initially awarded to another rescue, but they were overrun with horses and placed him with Bluebonnet. He was a stallion when he was rescued but gelded before coming to them. Chili was pretty thin when he arrived, but he gained weight quickly with good care. He was described as not halter broke by the other rescue, but Bluebonnet discovered that he’s just shy – and maybe had some bad handling in the past. He can be a little hard to catch, but he leads, lunges, loads, and more (once caught). He hasn’t liked being touched and did not pick up his feet for the farrier, so he’s with a more experienced foster home who is teaching him it is okay to be touched and teaching him to pick up his feet. He’s probably going to be with his foster home quite a while as he overcomes his rough past.
Chili needs a halter and lead rope (blue, please!) - this breakaway halter is $36.95 and the woven cotton lead rope is$12.95. He also needs a bridle and an O-ring snaffle ($39.99 and $29.99). He could use some dewormer ($10.50) and he would love some treats, too ($14.95).
He's currently on Producer's Pride 12% Horse Feed Pellets (three 50 lb bags would be $50.97 from Tractor Supply). Of course, a Tractor Supply gift card works too! Chili could also use some contributions toward his training, as he will need a professional to help him under saddle ($300).
THANK YOU to Suzanne B., Irene J., Tango S., Mojo S., Dianne E., Barbara D., Jill L., and Bonnie L. for helping Chili realize his dream! Chili needs $399 more to get back on the right hoof!
Special Horses, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization. It is a GuideStar Platinum Participant and has been a Great Nonprofit since 2015. Since 2009, our mission has been to provide outstanding 501(c)(3) equine rescue organizations with fundraising opportunities, marketing assistance, educational opportunities, grant assistance and community outreach. The organizations we support are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming horses in need, and are carefully screened and selected based on their trustworthy reputation, dedication, and excellent service to the animals in their care. Rescuing horses leaves these organizations little time to plan, organize, and execute fundraisers and outreach, and it is the mission of Special Horses to help them help equines in need.
