Senility (Lilli) is a former racehorse (and an Affirmed granddaughter), foaled in 1997. She didn’t do well on the track, and after her last race she was shipped off to the Sugarcreek Livestock Auction – an auction frequented by kill buyers. She was saved from that horrific fate, and lived in Florida, playing polo and doing hunters. When her owner fell ill in 2011, she arranged for Lilli to come to Bright Futures Farm.
2025 was a pretty rough year for Lilli. She contracted Lyme disease in August, and needed to be kept on stall rest. She damaged one of her hoof walls and her front soles became quite thin, and as a result, she needs to be shod on all four feet.
Lilli is doing very well now, but she needs shoes…a reset is $185 each time and even though horses’ hooves don’t grow as fast in the winter, they still need to be reset every 6 weeks. Lilli also developed a fondness for Mann Pro Peppermint Flavor Horse Treats, because that helped her take the medications she needed – peppermint is a natural anti-inflammatory. A 6.5 lb bag of Manna Pro Start To Finish Peppermint Flavor Horse Treatsis $13.99 at Tractor Supply.
$384 would ensure Lilli has resets through the early spring, plus her peppermint treats!

Special Horses, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization. It is a GuideStar Platinum Participant and has been a Great Nonprofit since 2015. Since 2009, our mission has been to provide outstanding 501(c)(3) equine rescue organizations with fundraising opportunities, marketing assistance, educational opportunities, grant assistance and community outreach. The organizations we support are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming horses in need, and are carefully screened and selected based on their trustworthy reputation, dedication, and excellent service to the animals in their care. Rescuing horses leaves these organizations little time to plan, organize, and execute fundraisers and outreach, and it is the mission of Special Horses to help them help equines in need.
